Saginaw Promise scholarship awards and criteria are as follows:
SPZ scholarship awards are available up to two years (two semesters per academic year).
The SPZ scholarship can be used at trade/technical schools, community colleges or universities in Michigan. Note: Students attending out-of-State institutions may use their Saginaw Promise scholarship for online classes at or during spring/summer semesters when back in Michigan or at a Michigan institution.
SPZ Awards are to be used for tuition and mandatory fees only.
The Saginaw Promise Scholarships is a “last dollar” scholarship. The amount awarded is is determined last and is based on what other financial aid is received, such as funds, scholarships or grants awarded for tuition and mandatory fees.
Awards vary and are based on whether scholar attends a two-year college/or certificate program or plan to attend a four-year university.
Two-year Institution: For example, if you receive no other scholarships or grants, the SPZ award will provide the tuition and fees necessary to obtain an associate’s degree or its equivalent based on tuition at Delta College to be used at any community college or accredited trade/vocational school in the State of Michigan toward a 2-year degree or program certificate. If you receive other funds or scholarships, the SPZ award will cover remaining tuition and mandatory fees (up to 30 credits per academic year). Size of the SPZ award will be determined by financial information provided by financial aid officer completing the “General scholarship Financial Information Form”.
Four-year Institution: The current award for tuition and mandatory fees is $4,000 for the academic year or $2,000 per semester (two semesters of an academic year).
All Saginaw Promise scholarship payments are paid directly to the Financial Aid office of the institution attended.
Scholarships are also based on how long the scholar has lived in the Promise Zone and how many years the scholar has attended schools within the Saginaw Promise Zone.
The Saginaw Promise scholarship will be pro-rated based on the number of years the student with his/her parent (s), custodial parent (s) or guardian(s) have resided in the Promise Zone using the sliding scale.
